MUSIC: The California Honey Drops

The California Honeydrops encompass everything about giving, getting and spreading love... Their sophomore release isn't titled Spreadin' Honey because it's a guide to making delicious toast, but because it's a tribute to all the loyal friends and fans who have helped them out along the way.

While the tracks on their debut album Soul Tub paid tribute to the country, jazz, afro-beat and blues acts that inspired their early musical careers, Spreadin' Honey has worked to combine those elements with stronger gospel influences to craft a uniquely original work of art. The Gospel undertones can be attributed to the addition of seasoned piano veteran Charlie Hickox, formerly of Gideon and Power. Charlie, as well as bassist Doug Stuart, are the new-found compliments to the original lineup of saxophonist Johnny Bones, drummer Ben Malament and the ringleader Lech Wierzynski on trumpet, guitar, and lead vocals.

"The Honey EP," states Lech, "is meant to get people out of their seats and onto the floor, dancing and singing along."
